We remember that this is a day of mourning. Jesus was arrested in the night. He was dragged from one place to another and beaten with mental and physical ills. If you watch today's services you will hear the seven final words of Christ and be able to venerate the cross.
1. In the morning you could set up a table with a crucifix and candle.
2. Meditate and read any of the following scripture:
St. John 19: 13-37, St. Matthew 27:35-52, St. Luke 23: 34-36, St. Mark 15:24-38
3. Take an hour to be in silence and prayer at 3PM or at another time that works today.
4. At 3pm, one can blow out the candle, kneel and take a moment to remember how Jesus died for them.
5. Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary
6. Watch and pray the Stations of the Cross. (note you can skip the opening 2 minutes)
7. Remember to fast and abstain throughout the day.
8. Meditate on 7 last words of Christ
9. As a family watch a movie that raises ones mind to God and this day.
Here is a list of Family Movies for Holy Week on Netflix and Amazon.
10. A form of abstaining may be from any screen time from morning to 3PM - or all day.
11. The father of the family could hold the cross/crucifix as each member of the family would come forward to kiss the cross or Jesus feet. (You can wipe the cross after each person touches it).
12. A tradition of Good Friday is Hot Cross Buns. You may cook these with your family and talk about what Jesus did for us today and what it means for our lives.
