Year of St. Joseph

There are two wonderful Consecrations to choose from:

Dr. Bottaro and Jennifer Settle have a beautiful Consecration that begins on the Feast day of St. Joseph and ends on the Feast day of St. Joseph the Worker. It's title is Consecration to Jesus through Saint Joseph.

Fr. Calloway has a Consecration to St. Joseph, The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father.

O God, in your ineffable providence you were pleased to choose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most holy Mother, grant, we beg you, that we may be worthy to have him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our Protector: You who live and reign forever and ever.  St. Joseph, pray for us

What does this mean for you? 

Not only can you use this year to grow closer to St. Joseph, there are over 10 ways you can celebrate and receive a special plenary indulgence! This plenary indulgence can be for yourself or for a soul in purgatory.

What is a plenary indulgence? 

Although sin is forgiven through confession, there still remains a consequence to our rejection of God. For example, you throw a ball through your neighbors’ window. You’re truly sorry, apologize, and they forgive you. You still are asked to pay for the window. Similarly, though God forgives us our sins through the sacrament of Reconciliation, we still have to make amends for the hurt our sins caused members of the body of Christ.  According to the Catechism, “An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins…” (CC 1471) Indulgences can be partial or plenary. Plenary means complete, therefore a plenary indulgence is a total or complete remission from sins. You can receive one plenary indulgence each day.

How do I receive this plenary indulgence? 

Simply follow these four steps:

1) Go to confession. 

2) Receive the Eucharist. 

3) Pray for the Pope’s intentions. 

Once you have done these three things, you are ready to...

4) Complete one of the below prayer, acts, or meditations:

• Attend a spiritual retreat (for at least one day) and include a meditation of St. Joseph
• Pray for St. Joseph’s intercession for the unemployed.
• Recite the Litany of St. Joseph for persecuted Christians.
• Entrust your day to the protection of St. Joseph.
• Perform a corporal work of mercy. (Feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the imprisoned, visiting the sick, and burying the dead)
• Perform a spiritual work of mercy. (Comfort the sorrowful, counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish the sinner, bear wrongs patiently, forgive injuries, and pray for the living and the dead)
• Pray the rosary together as a family.
• Engaged couples can also receive an indulgence from praying the rosary together.
• Meditate for at least 30 minutes on the Lord’s Prayer. 
• Celebrate the feast of St. Joseph on March 19th with an act of piety in honor of St. Joseph.
• Pray an approved prayer to St. Joseph on the 19th of any month. 
• Honor St. Joseph with an act of piety or approved prayer on Wednesday, the day traditionally dedicated to St. Joseph. 
• Celebrate the feast of St. Joseph the Worker on May 1st with an act of piety or prayer.

To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also. Through the charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embrace the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities. 

O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid
